Water Grants Help Local Schools
The District’s WATER (Water And Environment Teacher Education Resources) grants provide direct funding to support educators in teaching about the significance of water resources in local schools. In 2023, The District awarded $5,000 to fund water-focused educational programs in the area. We would like to congratulate the following educators:
- Eastwood High School - Keith Madaras & Eric Rutherford
- Elmwood Middle School - Katie Smith, Ashley Kuehne, Rebecca Peery, Alyssa Reynolds, Robin Reynolds
- Otsego High School - Bob Furlong
- Patrick Henry - Angie Ballow
- Rossford Schools - Rachel Hood
According to District President Jerry Greiner, "We are committed to ensuring our local schools have the resources they need to understand and protect their water supply. By investing in education and research, we empower our future leaders to create a more sustainable world for generations to come."
The WATER grant program was introduced by The District in December 2014 as part of its mission to give back to the schools and communities it serves. The program seeks to create awareness about the importance of water and the environment and to support responsible environmental stewardship.
Boaring Under the Maumee River
A major milestone in construction is underway beneath the flowing waters of the Maumee River. The District is currently boring under the river as part of the $4.9 million waterline project. This part of the project will take over two months to complete. Once the waterline is in place, the line that extends from Weston, through McClure will connect across the river to Texas to a pump station that will deliver water to the Village of Liberty Center. Construction continues through June and the line is expected to be in service this summer. Look for more about this project on social media or check out nwwsd.org for details.
Spring Landscaping Repairs
As soon as the weather conditions permit, our crews will begin the repair of yards and sidewalks that were affected by winter work across The District. This task will take some time as our service area spans more than 1,200 miles. We are also collaborating with local asphalt contractors who will assist with road repairs.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these repairs. Our goal is to ensure that all damages caused by the winter work are repaired to their original condition in a timely manner.

District Board of Trustees Meetings are scheduled for the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m.. See website for schedule updates.
Meetings are open to the public at our main office located at 12560 Middleton Pike in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Construction Corner
Henry County: Waterline Project
Through June, lane restrictions are possible on CR 424, between CR 4 and SR 109. Lane restrictions are also possible on Euler Road from Van Tassel Road to SR 65, on Kiel Road from Weston Road to Euler Road, and in the Village of McClure north of US 6 for waterline installation. Project investment: $4.9 million. Project complete: June.
McComb Regional Waterline Project
Through November, intermittent lane restrictions are possible in North Baltimore at High Street and along Main Street to Deweyville Road (CR 203), west along CR 203, and south to Township Road 131, on SR 613, Park Drive, to the existing McComb water treatment plant on Park Street for waterline installation. Project investment: $7 million. Project complete: November.
Northwood: Tracy Road Waterline Replacement
Lane restrictions are possible on Tracy Road from Florence Avenue to Andrus Road. Closures will be announced. Project investment: $1.9 million. Project complete: January 2024.
District Area Work: Valve Maintenance
Through December, crews will be performing valve maintenance in northern Wood County. Flush your waterlines if your water becomes discolored.
