December Waterworks Newsletter

RATE FORECAST

As a government organization that does not rely on taxes, we annually review water and sewer rates as part of our budget process. Each year, we meticulously track the costs associated with pumping, treating, storing, distributing, operating, and maintaining our system, to forecast rates for the upcoming year.

For the 2025 budget, we are carefully assessing our anticipated capital and operating expenses. This includes accounting for the impact of inflation on our overall costs, as well as the unpredictable bidding climate affecting labor, materials, fuel, and utilities.

Once our budget is finalized, The District's Board of Trustees will discuss and approve both the 2025 budget and the corresponding rates, typically during a December board meeting. Depending on your location, your water or sewer treatment provider may also adjust their rates, which could further impact your bill. For more detailed information on the upcoming rates, watch for our next newsletter, which you will receive in next month’s bill. You can also sign up for our newsletter online at nwwsd.org or by following us on social media @NWWSD.

DISTRICT BOARD UPDATE

Recently, members of our board of trustees accepted reappointments of three of their members. Doug Miller was reappointed by the Wood County Commissioners, Steve Arnold was reappointed by the member townships, and Mark Sheffer was reappointed by the municipal members. Their terms will conclude in December 2027.

DUNBRIDGE & SR 582 SEWER AND WATER PROJECT

Work is underway on The Northwestern Water and Sewer District’s largest infrastructure initiative in its thirty year history. The $13.1 million Dunbridge and State Route 582 water and sewer project will add 5.8 miles of sanitary sewer line and 2.3 miles of water line.

$8.7 million of the project was awarded to The District from the Wood County Commissioners through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The remaining costs will be partially funded through a 0% loan from the Ohio EPA. The loan will be paid for by future development and fees for connection to the water and sewer facilities. According to District President Jerry Greiner, "This project benefits the region by enhancing public health and the environment while also providing vital infrastructure that will support our schools and local communities for years to come."

Over the winter, crews will clear trees in the community of Dunbridge. Work will also focus on boring the water and sewer lines under Interstate 75. For the latest information on the project, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and X @NWWSD.
