BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Northwestern Water and Sewer District (The District) recently awarded $1,500 in grant funding to Rossford Local Schools. These grants, known as Water And Environment Teacher Education Resources (WATER), aim to support educational programs focused on water resources. By providing direct funding to educators, the grants enable them to teach about the vital importance of water in science and environmental stewardship.
In 2024, The District will allocate over $9,000 to local schools within our service area for water-focused educational initiatives. These programs will teach students about water quality, sustainability, and responsible water usage.
The District presented two $500 WATER grants to Rossford Elementary School teachers Andrea Iman and Alicia Conley. The grants will provide funding to purchase materials needed for a hydroponic sensory garden. Through this project, students will learn about the importance of conserving and replenishing natural resources using closed water systems and the nutrient enhancement process.
Another $500 WATER grant was awarded to Rossford Junior High School teacher Rachel Hood. These funds will go toward purchasing materials necessary to study the local watershed at Grassy Creek and the Rossford Marina.
The District introduced The WATER grant program in December 2014, driven by a strong desire to give back to the schools and communities it serves. By fostering educational awareness about water resources and environmental sustainability, The District remains committed to its mission of responsible environmental stewardship.
