Locate your Water Shutoff Valve
Each winter, The District sees an increase in water line breaks due to the cold. While we repair public lines, homeowners are responsible for ensuring water lines on their property
do not burst in extreme cold. One of the questions we get asked is how to shut off water coming into your home. We recommend everyone learn where their main water shut-off valve is located and know how to turn it off in case a pipe breaks. Knowing where your shutoff valve is could be the difference between major water damage and minor water saturation.
Your water shutoff valve is typically located in the lower level of your home or business, close to where the water line enters the home or building. Once you find it, be sure to tag it so you can easily locate it when needed. After tagging, test the valve to make sure it can be turned. Finally, be sure others in the home know where your shut-off valve is and how to turn it off.

30 Years of Serving You
The Northwestern Water & Sewer District officially started operation on January 1, 1994. The District (previously known as the Wood County Regional Water and Sewer District) was established to serve rural and small communities in Wood County with water and sewer services. Today, The District has expanded to five counties (Wood, Sandusky, Henry, Hancock, and Lucas) and serves over 20,000 customers.
The District leverages the benefits of combining systems to reduce operation and maintenance costs. We also provide professional management and experienced, licensed personnel to service our customers.
We are thrilled to celebrate our 30th anniversary and proud to deliver quality water to you. We are also proud to offer sewer services that protect public health and the environment for our future.
