It’s fairly common that when we experience a cold snap, The District receives calls from customers reporting they don’t have water. The majority of the time, it’s a case where the customer’s pipes have frozen and/or burst. While we don’t maintain internal plumbing, we can offer simple tips to avoid those costly headaches. How to Spot a Water Leak
So far this year the freezing temps have caused over 10 water leaks on our water mains. Water leaks can be tricky to spot, so be on the lookout if you notice any of the following:
- Water bubbling up near the road or from a crack in the street.
- If there is a sudden drop in water pressure, or a complete loss of water in your home.

Fix a Leak Week
Fix a Leak Week is a time to encourage you to find and fix household water leaks. EPA's annual Fix a Leak Week takes place March 17 through 25. Follow us on social media for more info.
Construction Projects
Dunbridge SR 582 Water and Sewer Project
Through December, watch for lane restrictions on Dunbridge Road from SR 582 to Poe Road and along SR 582 between SR 25 and Dunbridge Road. Project investment: $13.1 million.
McClure: Waterline Replacement Project
Through February, lane restrictions are possible in McClure for waterline installation. Project investment: $1.7 million.
Portage: Water Main Replacement
Through February, lane restrictions are possible on SR 25 in Portage. Project investment: $1.4 million.
