Summer Water Saving Advice

The warmer weather often means increased water use for gardens, lawns and more. Since your bill is based on your usage, more water means a higher bill. Below are some tips to help you conserve water and save money.

Gardening Tips

  • Regularly check your outside spigots and garden hoses for leaks.
  • When watering plants, direct water to the root zone using a watering wand, drip irrigation, or soaker hose.
  • Water your lawn or garden during the early morning or evening hours to prevent evaporation.
  • Install rain barrels to collect and store rainwater for watering.

Source Water Quality: Harmful Algal Blooms

The District is actively working with its water treatment providers t monitor for harmful algal blooms (HABs) in all water sources, which include Lake Erie, the Maumee River, and several small streams. While about 6,500 customer receive treated Lake Erie water from the City of Toledo and 3,000 from the City of Oregon, the resto four customers are supplied by rivers and streams.
