July Waterworks Newsletter

You're invited to The District Open House! - August 16th, 3-7PM

After two years of cancellations due to the pandemic, The District's Open House returns on Tuesday, August 16th from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.! This event will be held at our main office at 12560 Middleton Pike in Bowling Green, Ohio.

This year we welcome you to learn more about how we take care of your water. Our staff will be on hand to guide you through a tour of our high-tech facility. There will also be a special presentation at 4 p.m. to show you how we support economic development in Northwestern Ohio. Attendees can also meet members of our Board of Trustees.

Of course, there will be plenty of fun and entertainment for the whole family including bounce
houses, fishing, and giveaways. You can have your portrait drawn by a caricature artist. Plus we will
provide free food including burgers, hot dogs, chips, and self-serve ice cream. Don't miss your chance to go viral when you get a picture with everyone's favorite water drop mascot, Drippy!

We welcome you to stop out for a visit. For more information visit our Facebook events @NWWSD.

Harmful Algal Blooms

Summer is here and so is the potential for the growth of harmful algal blooms (HABS). Because of improved treatment processes, regular monitoring, and extensive research, the risk of HABs impacting our drinking water is extremely low. The District and the partners of the Toledo Regional Water Commission receive regular updates from the City of Toledo as they finalize construction improvements to their water treatment plant. The District also works with our other treatment providers to ensure your water is safe. For more information on HABs, go to nwwsd.org.

Look for us in your Community!

The warmer weather has been perfect for getting back out and meeting you at local events. So far we've been able to take part in Eastwood Vehicle Career Day and the Bowling Green Farmers Market. Look for a District booth or one of our red trucks at several upcoming events, including the McComb Cookie Festival and the Weston Vendors and Farmers Market.

Mapping McComb

The District received a $50,000 grant from the state's new H2Ohio program to identify and map lead service lines. The District plans on using the funds to examine water lines in the Village of McComb. According to Engineer Tom Stalter, "This funding will help us determine if there are lead water lines in McComb, where records don't exist. We will then use that data to see if there is a need for a project to replace any lines."

So far, 94% of The District's over 17,000 water lines have already been identified, mapped, and determined not to have lead. The District will reach out to customers in McComb before the identification project begins this fall.

Announcements

District Board of Trustees Meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 7:30 a.m. Join us at our main office located at 12560 Middleton Pike in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Educators In The Workplace

In June, The District welcomed over 20 educators from all over the region to learn more about career opportunities. The event is a part of Northwest Ohio Tech Prep and High Schools that Work "Educators in the Workplace" program. We thank all of the teachers for their help in getting the next generation ready to work, hopefully, at a career in water at The District!
