FALL WATER SAVINGS

As the days get shorter and temperatures cool, here are few tips to save money on your water and sewer bill.

Shorter Days = Shorter Watering Times

If you are still watering your plants, lawns and gardens, remember they require less water in the fall as daylight hours are shorter and the sun is less intense.

Sprinkler Shut-Off

Winterize your sprinkler system before the first freeze to avoid damage to your outdoor and indoor plumbing. Even a tiny break in an irrigation system can cost you hundreds of dollars over the winter. Winterizing your sprinkler system can be done if you have knowledge of backflow and plumbing systems, but we recommend you contact a certified irrigation professional to assist in this important fall chore.

Savings for Snowbirds

If you are away from home longer than thirty days, consider turning off your water service. You'll avoid the minimum monthly charges and there's no charge to shut off your water. You should winterize your plumbing to keep your pipes from breaking, so this may not be a good option if you are gone for only a few weeks. Call our office seven days before you leave to schedule your shut off and remember to contact us seven days before you return home to have your water service restored.

WATERLINE WORK

Construction work on waterlines throughout our area is ramping up this fall. Several waterline projects are underway including a $1.7 million waterline replacement project in the Village of McClure. The District is also close to wrapping up a $2 million waterline replacement project on various streets in Rossford. Work is almost complete on the $978,000 Farnstead waterline replacement project in Northwood. These projects will replace aged waterlines and upgrade the infrastructure for years to come.

later this year, a $1.2 million water main replacement project will start in the Village of Portage. The District will also start a project that will add over two miles of waterline to our water distribution system. The SR 582 Sewer and Water project will provide optional water service to the Dunbridge area and the I-75/SR 582 interchange.

The District also continues to identify water service lines throughout our 475 miles of waterline distribution pipe. This excavation project will continue in many locations throughout the area and wrap up by the end of the year.
