The Northwestern Water and Sewer District is pleased to welcome the Village of Grand Rapids as our newest member community. We want to reassure our current customers that this growth will not impact your water or sewer service, rates, billing, or customer support. The District has the staff, equipment, and planning resources to support Grand Rapids while continuing the dependable service you rely on.
As we begin a 90-day transition, our focus remains on providing safe, reliable service to all of the communities we serve.
Protect Your Household During a Water Emergency
During National Preparedness Month, take steps to help make your household ready for a water emergency. After a disaster, drinking water may not be available. Ready.gov recommends planning ahead with these helpful tips:
- Store at least one gallon of water per person, per day, for several days to support drinking and sanitation needs.
- Locate your home’s main water shutoff valve so you can quickly respond to a leak or break.
- Save the District’s after-hours emergency number, 419-354-9090, in your phone for water or sewer emergencies.
A little preparation today can help protect your family when it matters most.
District Storage Facility
The District is working with Spieker General Contractors, from Northwood, Ohio on a design-build project to construct a vehicle storage building to protect our equipment. Our fleet of over 67 vehicles has outgrown our current storage garages. This new facility will provide secure storage, protect our work trucks from harsh weather, and includes a wash bay to help keep our service fleet clean, maintained, and ready to work. Winter storage will also help crews mobilize more quickly during emergencies.
Our mechanic’s bay will also be relocated to improve safety and accommodate larger modern vehicles, such as hydro excavators and vac trucks.
The approximately $12 million project will be located just west of our current buildings on SR 582. Construction is expected to be complete in late 2027.

Construction Projects
Woodville Road Waterline Replacement
Through October, lane restrictions are possible on Woodville Road between Lemoyne Road and Owen Road for waterline work. Project investment: $1.8 million. Project complete: October.
District-Wide Hydrant Flushing
Through October, weekdays from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., District crews will be flushing hydrants in Rossford and Northwood.
