WCEDC Corporate Citizen of the Year

The District was recently named 2022 Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Wood County Economic Development Commission (WCEDC) for our involvement in Wood County’s economic development efforts.

The past year was special for all of us, as it brought several new employers into this region including:

  • Expansion of First Solar into Lake Township
  • Continued development in Rossford’s Crossroads area
  • Further development in Troy Township’s Eastwood Commerce Center
  • United Parcel Service construction into Henry Township

As well as other areas of development throughout the county!

Our role includes conversations with the prospective developers on their needs, location, and our capabilities to serve them. We do a lot in this area as do other Wood County organizations.

But it is the location that brings these companies here. Our utilities and tax codes, etc. are necessary, but it always comes down to the availability of land and transportation capabilities, says Rex Huffman, a representative for the Wood County Port Authority.

Some of these companies are larger water and sewer users, but all pay taxes, bring jobs and offer something to this area for our schools or local government. These employers can be credited with thousands of jobs created already!

We are the 15th employer to be named Corporate Citizen of the Year since 2007 when the WCEDC began doing so. However, we are the first governmental agency to be named and the smallest with our 75 employees. So, it tells you a lot about our efforts and our impact, year after year!

The video outlining the District’s involvement is on our website, so please take a few minutes to watch it! I think it will give you a better idea of the great work we do for our community.
