Ohio Water Environment Association Recognizes The District and Their Operations Challenge Team

Bowling Green, Ohio

The Ohio Water Environment Association (OWEA) awarded The Northwestern Water and Sewer District (The District) the 2019 Facility Image Award at the OWEA Technical Conference and Expo in Sandusky, Ohio.

This award recognizes OWEA members who have enhanced the image of the water profession by improving their workplace through outreach programs to schools and to the general public.

The District has highlighted its highly skilled workforce through social media and by hosting an annual “Open House”. This event showcases the care that our team puts into maintaining the pipes that carry water to and from your home. The event features live demonstrations, interactive exhibits, and more. The District supported these efforts through its mobile-friendly website, which premiered online in May 2018.

In 2018, The District awarded over $3,500 in grant money to Northwest Ohio school districts through its Water and Environment Teacher Education and Recourses (WATER) grants. The grants support teachers with resources like textbooks and lab monitoring equipment to teach students about how water is managed and the importance of protecting it.

The District has also been active in promoting the efforts of its OWEA-sponsored “Ops Challenge” team. OWEA was awarded second place overall in the 2019 statewide Operations Challenge to The District’s team of five operators at the conference. With their second-place finish in Ohio, OWEA will sponsor The District’s Team, “Dirty Deeds” to compete in the national Operations Challenge in Chicago this fall.
