BOWLING GREEN, Ohio, – The Northwestern Water and Sewer District (The District) approved on Thursday, September 26th, a merger agreement with the Henry County Regional Water and Sewer District (HCRWSD). The District board also approved funding to cover a shortfall of $45,600 for an outstanding Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) loan that was due by HCRWSD on October 1, 2019.
The vote was passed unanimously by six out of the nine Northwestern Water and Sewer District Board members in attendance. Also attending was HCRWSD Board Member Amy Behrman and Henry County Commissioner Glenn Miller.
“I appreciate you allowing the Henry County Regional Water and Sewer District to merge with your organization,” said Henry County Commissioner Glenn Miller. HCRWSD Board Member Amy Behrman echoed that comment saying, “The Northwestern Water and Sewer District’s management team is very capable of running a district system and we are confident they can offer more to our customers in Henry County.”
The District’s Board also approved an amendment to the current operations agreement making the payment of the OWDA loan contingent on the Henry County Commissioners approval of a guarantee to reimburse the payment should the merger not proceed.
The HCRWSD was faced with default proceedings if this loan was not paid by October 1st. According to District President Jerry Greiner, “It’s critical for the merger proceedings to go as smoothly as possible with the financial interest of current and future customers in mind. We appreciate the reassurance given to The District today by the Henry County Commissioners.”
The merger between these two districts offers regional cooperation, efficient and affordable long-term operations, and allows expanded economic development opportunity.
