Fall Water Tips to Save Money

As the days get shorter and temperatures cool, it's a good time to remind you of a few steps you can take to save money on your water and sewer bill.

Sprinkler Shut-Off

Before the ground freezes, it's a good idea to winterize your sprinkler system to avoid damage to your outdoor and indoor plumbing over the winter. Even a tiny break in an irrigation system can cost you hundreds of dollars over the winter. Winterizing your sprinkler system can be done if you have good knowledge of backflow and plumbing systems, but we recommend you contact a certified irrigation professional to assist in this important fall chore.

Savings for Snowbirds

If you are going to be away from home for longer than 30 days during the cold weather, you may want to consider turning off your water service. You'll avoid the minimum monthly charges and there's no charge to shut off your water. Keep in mind you will have to winterize your plumbing to keep your pipes from breaking, so this may not be a good option if you are gone for only a few weeks. Interested? Call our office during regular business hours, 5 to 7 days before you leave, to schedule a time to turn off your service. Be sure to contact us 5 to 7 days before you return to turn your service back on.

District Operators First in the State

The Operations Challenge is a statewide competition where Ohio EPA-licensed operators exhibit their skills in building and repairing our wastewater infrastructure. The District is proud to announce that Dirty Deeds, our team of five operators, received first place at the One Water Ohio conference.

The Ohio Water Environment Association will sponsor the Dirty Deeds team to compete with operators from around the country during the largest wastewater conference in the country. Watch for updates on our social media @NWWSD

Supporting Our Future Leaders

At The District, we believe in giving back to the communities we serve. In Wood and Henry counties, 4H and FFA teach vital leadership skills to our youth. We like to recognize the hard work of those who take part in these great programs by showing our support. This year The District contributed $2,675 to the Wood and Henry County Junior Fair Auctions. Congratulations to all of the fair participants on another successful year.

Planning the 2024 Budget

The District is currently in the process of planning its budget for the year 2024. The District’s budget is structured like a “not-for-profit” organization, which means that our goal is to balance income and expenses each year with no profit. The District covers expenses using the revenue generated from the monthly water and sewer bills paid by its customers.

The District Board of Trustees will review the final budget and any decisions regarding rate adjustments are expected to be made in early December. These adjustments will go into effect on January 1, 2024.

Pay It Forward

The Pay It Forward Program is a dedicated fund to help those in our community get back on their feet following a crisis. Pay It Forward uses generous donations from our customers to help one another with water and sewer bills during a financial emergency. Donations are forwarded to the Salvation Army to assist people in need to keep their utilities on. For more information go to NWWSD.org.
